很久很久以前，洪水经常泛滥。/Hace muchísimo tiempo, las inundaciones eran constantes./Long, long ago, there were frequent floods.
大水淹没了田地，冲毁了房屋，毒蛇猛兽到处伤害百姓和牲畜，人们的生活痛苦极了。/El agua inundaba los campos y arrasaba las casas; serpientes venenosas y fieras atacaban por todas partes a la gente y al ganado, y la vida era muy dura./The waters flooded the fields and washed away the houses; poisonous snakes and wild beasts harmed people and livestock everywhere, and life was terribly hard.
洪水给百姓带来了无数的灾难，必须治好它。/Las inundaciones causaban innumerables desgracias a la gente; había que controlarlas./The floods brought countless disasters to the people; they had to be brought under control.
当时，一个名叫鲧的人领着大家治水。/En aquella época, un hombre llamado Gun dirigió a la gente para controlar las aguas./At that time a man called Gun led everyone in taming the waters.
他只知道筑坝挡水，九年过去了，洪水仍然没有消退。/Él solo sabía construir diques para frenar el agua; pasaron nueve años y las aguas seguían sin retirarse./He only knew how to build dams to block the water; nine years went by, and the floods still hadn't gone down.
他的儿子禹继续治水。/Su hijo Yu siguió con la tarea./His son Yu carried on taming the floods.
禹离开了家乡，一去就是十三年。/Yu se marchó de su tierra y estuvo fuera trece años./Yu left his home and was away for thirteen years.
这十三年里，他到处奔走，曾经多次路过自己的家门口。/En esos trece años fue de un lado a otro y pasó muchas veces por delante de su casa./In those thirteen years he travelled everywhere and passed his own front door many times.
可是他认为治水要紧，一次也没有走进家门看一看。/Pero creía que controlar las aguas era lo más importante y ni una sola vez entró a ver a los suyos./But he believed taming the floods was what mattered most, and not once did he go in to look.
禹吸取了鲧治水失败的教训，采用疏导的办法治水。/Yu aprendió del fracaso de Gun y controló las aguas encauzándolas./Yu learnt from Gun's failure and tamed the floods by channelling the water.
他和大家一起，疏通了很多河道，让洪水通过河道，最后流到大海里去。/Junto con todos, despejó muchos cauces para que las aguas corrieran por ellos hasta llegar al mar./Together with everyone, he cleared many river channels, so the floodwater flowed through them and finally into the sea.
洪水终于退了，毒蛇猛兽被驱赶走了，人们把家搬了回来。/Por fin bajaron las aguas, las serpientes y las fieras fueron expulsadas y la gente volvió a sus casas./At last the floods went down, the snakes and wild beasts were driven away, and people moved back home.
