想xiǎng和hé做zuò/Pensar y hacer/Thinking and Doing
/Algunas personas solo saben fantasear, no saben hacer cosas. Some people only know how to daydream, and don't know how to do things. They think up many ideas out of thin air, talk on and on with a lot of empty talk, but have never seriously done a single thing.
There are also people who only focus on doing, without using their brains. Why exactly this thing must be done, they never think about it.
We look down on the first type of person, saying they are “daydreamers,” we often praise the second type, saying they are capable of “working with heads down.”
Being able to work hard is certainly good, but only focusing on working without using one's head to think about what one is doing, in fact doesn't deserve praise.
/No hacer nada, imaginar en vano, eso es “fantasear”; no usar la cabeza, trabajar duro sin pensar, eso es “hacer sin pensar”./Doing nothing, imagining in vain, that is “daydreaming”; not using one's head, working hard without thinking, that is “mindless doing.”
/Sea cual sea el asunto, ya sea trabajo o estudio, “fantasear” y “hacer sin pensar” no traerán progreso./Whatever the matter, whether work or study, “daydreaming” and “mindless doing” will not bring progress.
/Pensar y hacer no se pueden separar, deben conectarse necesariamente./Thinking and doing cannot be separated, they must necessarily be connected.
想xiǎng和hé做zuò怎样zěnyàng才能够cáinénggòu联系起来liánxìqǐlái呢ne?/¿Cómo se pueden conectar el pensar y el hacer?/How can thinking and doing be connected?
We often hear the phrase “start from reality,” this is a very good way to connect thinking and doing.
When thinking one must start from reality, approach reality so as not to daydream.
/¿Cómo acercarse a la realidad? Por supuesto hay que observar./How can one approach reality? Of course one must observe.
But relying only on observation isn't enough, one must also act.
举例来说jǔlìláishuō,人rén是shì怎样zěnyàng学会xuéhuì游泳yóuyǒng的de呢ne?/Por ejemplo, ¿cómo aprende una persona a nadar?/For example, how does a person learn to swim?
/Solo con ver los movimientos de otros nadando, no es suficiente; hay que saltar uno mismo al agua a practicar, una vez, dos veces, diez veces, decenas de veces practicando, para poder aprender a nadar./Relying only on watching others' swimming movements isn't enough; one must jump into the water oneself to practice, once, twice, ten times, dozens of times practicing, to be able to learn to swim.
/Si solo se está parado en la orilla, primero fantaseando un rato, aunque se pueda pensar en un montón de “razones”, uno seguirá sin saber nadar./If one just stands by the water's edge, first daydreaming for a while, even if one can think up a whole bunch of “reasons,” one still won't know how to swim.
/Estas “razones” imaginadas, en realidad ni siquiera cuentan como razones válidas./These imagined “reasons,” in fact don't even count as valid reasons.
/Hay que hacer y pensar a la vez./One must do and think at the same time.
/El hacer, necesita del pensar para guiarse y resumirse; el pensar, necesita del hacer para realizarse y comprobarse./Doing needs thinking to guide and summarize it; thinking needs doing to realize and prove it.
/En la escuela, algunos estudiantes son muy “aplicados”, pero simplemente no saben usar la cabeza./In school, some students are very “hardworking,” but simply don't know how to use their heads.
/Creen que estudiar es solo leer el texto mecánicamente./They think that studying is just mechanically reading the text.
Because they only read without thinking, they don't really understand the meaning of the text, and the result is twice the effort for half the result.
/No importa quién, no importa lo que haga, debe pensar seriamente./No matter who, no matter what they do, they should think seriously. Think about what?
/¿Pensar qué? Pensar en lo que él mismo ha hecho, pensar en la experiencia obtenida al hacer las cosas./Think about what they themselves have done, think about the experience gained from doing things.
This way, what's in their mind won't be daydreaming, and in doing things they can also continuously progress.

Pedagogical Commentary: Truth is born after a hundred question marks: persistence in scientific exploration:
1. The transparency of form: Observing 亦 (yì) or 途 (tú) helps connect the character's shape to its meaning, instead of memorizing it blindly.
2. The leap from character to word: These characters are rarely used alone; learning one opens the door to many new words.
3. Memory through context: Learning a character like 径 (jìng) together with a real sentence helps far more than memorizing its meaning in isolation.
