/Este niño se llamaba Samuel, más tarde se convirtió en un famoso escritor estadounidense, con el seudónimo de Mark Twain./This child was named Samuel, he later became a famous American writer, with the pen name Mark Twain.
/En 1855, a los veinte años, Mark Twain tomó un barco para viajar lejos a Brasil./In 1855, at age twenty, Mark Twain took a ship on a long journey to Brazil.
/Sumergido en un mar de olas turbulentas, desarrolló un profundo interés por la navegación./Immersed in a sea of surging waves, he developed a deep interest in seafaring.
/Durante quinientas millas náuticas de navegación, estudió con esmero los conocimientos de navegación y adquirió un dominio básico de la técnica de pilotaje./During five hundred nautical miles of sailing, he diligently studied seafaring knowledge and gained a basic grasp of piloting skills.
/Cuando regresó en el barco, ya podía llevar el timón y navegar./When he returned by ship, he was already able to steer and navigate.
To commemorate this voyage, he used a navigator's term, “Mark Twain,” as his pen name, meaning that the ship could sail smoothly.
/Mark Twain fue un famoso maestro del humor; sus palabras ingeniosas y graciosas eran capaces de hacer reír a cualquiera, por eso la gente lo elogiaba como “un experto en contar chistes”./Mark Twain was a famous master of humor; his witty and humorous words were most able to make people laugh, so people praised him as “a master joke-teller.”
Before going, someone told him there were an especially large number of mosquitoes there.
/Pero Mark Twain dijo: “No importa, no tengo ningún parentesco con los mosquitos.”/But Mark Twain said: “No problem, I have no kinship relation with mosquitoes.”
After arriving at the town, Mark Twain was registering his room at the hotel, when a mosquito, as if drunk, hovered back and forth in front of him, emitting an annoying “buzz-buzz” sound.
/El empleado, al verlo, se sintió muy avergonzado y se apresuró a disculparse con Mark Twain./The clerk, seeing this, felt very embarrassed and quickly apologized to Mark Twain.
The mosquitoes here are many times smarter than legend says; they even find out in advance which room I've registered in, so as not to get the wrong door when they come visiting at night.”
/Esa noche, sin embargo, Mark Twain durmió especialmente bien./That night, however, Mark Twain slept especially soundly.
It turns out that all the hotel staff went into action together and chased away all the mosquitoes.
/A Mark Twain le gustaba bromear con la gente./Mark Twain liked to joke with people.
/Una vez, fue a dar una conferencia a un lugar y se encontró con un joven./Once, he went to give a lecture somewhere and met a young man.

你nǐ能néng使shǐ他tā发笑fāxiào吗ma?”/¿Puede usted hacerlo reír?”/Can you make him laugh?”
/Mark Twain dijo: “Trae a tu tío esta noche a escuchar mi conferencia, te garantizo que lo haré reír.”/Mark Twain said: “Bring your uncle tonight to hear my lecture, I guarantee I'll make him laugh.”

/Mark Twain no tuvo más remedio que dejar de hablar./Mark Twain had no choice but to stop his lecture.
几天jǐtiān以后yǐhòu,马克吐温Mǎkè Tǔwēn和hé他tā的de一位yíwèi好hǎo朋友péngyou谈起tánqǐ此事cǐshì,朋友péngyou告诉gàosu他tā说shuō:“你nǐ怎么zěnme能néng使shǐ他tā发笑fāxiào呢ne?/Días después, Mark Twain habló de este asunto con un buen amigo, y el amigo le dijo: “¿Cómo pudiste hacerlo reír?/A few days later, Mark Twain mentioned this to a good friend, and the friend told him: “How could you make him laugh?
/Ese anciano lleva años sordo.”/That old man has been deaf for years.”
/Al oír esto, Mark Twain dijo muy serio: “Ah, qué lástima, si hubiera sabido que era sordo, el que se habría reído habría sido yo.”/Upon hearing this, Mark Twain said with a straight face: “Ah, what a pity, if I had known he was deaf, it would surely have been me who ended up laughing.”
