落花生luòhuāshēng/Cacahuetes/Peanuts
/En el patio trasero de nuestra casa había medio mu de terreno vacío./In our backyard there was half a mu of empty land.
It's a pity to leave it wasted, since you all love eating peanuts so much, let's clear it and plant peanuts.”
/Nosotros, hermanos y hermanas, nos alegramos mucho, compramos semillas, aramos la tierra, sembramos, regamos, y en pocos meses, sorprendentemente, cosechamos./We siblings were all very happy, bought seeds, tilled the soil, sowed the seeds, watered them, and in just a few months, surprisingly, we harvested a crop.
母亲说mǔqīnshuō:“今晚jīnwǎn我们过wǒmenguò一个yíge收获节shōuhuòjié,请qǐng你们nǐmen的de父亲fùqin也yě来lái尝尝chángchang我们wǒmen的de新xīn花生huāshēng,好不好hǎobùhǎo?”/Mamá dijo: “Esta noche celebremos un festival de la cosecha, invitemos también a vuestro padre a probar nuestros cacahuetes nuevos, ¿de acuerdo?”/Mother said: “Tonight let's have a harvest festival, let's invite your father to try our new peanuts too, alright?” We all agreed.
/Todos dijimos que sí. Mamá preparó varios platillos con cacahuetes, y además ordenó que celebráramos esta fiesta en el pabellón de paja del patio trasero./Mother made several dishes with the peanuts, and also arranged for us to celebrate this festival in the thatched pavilion in the back garden.
那晚上nàwǎnshàng天色不大好tiānsèbúdàhǎo,可是kěshì父亲也fùqinyě来了láile,实在很shízàihěn难得nándé!/Esa noche el clima no era muy bueno, pero papá también vino, ¡algo realmente poco común!/That evening the weather wasn't very good, but father came too, truly a rare thing!
父亲说fùqinshuō:“你们nǐmen爱ài吃chī花生huāshēng么me?”/Papá dijo: “¿Os gusta comer cacahuetes?”/Father said: “Do you all love eating peanuts?”
我们争着wǒmenzhēngzhe答应dāying:“爱ài!”/Todos nos apresuramos a responder: “¡Sí!”/We all rushed to answer: “Yes!”
“谁能shéinéng把bǎ花生的huāshēngde好处说出来hǎochùshuōchūlái?”/“¿Quién puede decir las virtudes del cacahuete?”/“Who can tell me the good qualities of the peanut?”
The peanut tastes very delicious.”
/El hermano mayor dijo: “El cacahuete se puede prensar para hacer aceite.”/Elder brother said: “The peanut can be pressed for oil.”
I said: “Peanuts are cheap, anyone can buy them and eat them, everyone likes them.
/Esa es su virtud.”/That's their good quality.”
/Papá dijo: “Los cacahuetes tienen muchos usos, pero hay uno especialmente valioso: entierran su fruto bajo la tierra, no como el melocotón, la granada o la manzana, que cuelgan sus frutos rojos y verdes brillantes en lo alto de las ramas, haciendo que quien los ve sienta de inmediato admiración./Father said: “Peanuts have many uses, but there's one especially valuable one: they bury their fruit in the ground, unlike peaches, pomegranates, or apples, which hang their bright red and green fruit high on the branches, making anyone who sees them instantly feel admiration.
/Miren cómo crecen bajitos en la tierra, y aunque estén maduros, no se puede distinguir de inmediato si tienen fruto o no, hay que desenterrarlos para saberlo.”/Look how they grow low to the ground, and even when ripe, you can't immediately tell if they have fruit or not, you must dig them up to know.”
/Todos dijimos que sí, mamá también asintió con la cabeza./We all agreed, mother also nodded.
So you should be like the peanut, although it's not showy, it's very useful, it's not something with only good looks and no practical use.”
I said: “So, people should be useful people, not just seek prestige, but be people who bring no benefit to others.”
/Papá dijo: “Correcto./Father said: “Right.
/Esta es mi esperanza para vosotros.”/This is my hope for you all.”
We talked until deep into the night before dispersing. All the peanut dishes were eaten up, but father's words were deeply etched into my heart.

小河与xiǎohéyǔ大海dàhǎi/El río y el mar/The River and the Sea
Con aire triunfante fluyó hacia el mar, queriendo compararse a ver quién era más grande./In autumn, the river's water rose, and the river's surface became wider. The river thought it was the biggest thing under heaven. Proudly it flowed towards the sea, wanting to compare who was bigger.
The river, thinking this way, as it went along, couldn't have been happier. Along the whole way, it held its head up high, puffed out its chest, excitedly churning up waves, singing a joyful song.
/Al llegar al mar, solo se veía un vasto océano, y mirando a lo lejos, el cielo se unía al mar, el mar se unía al cielo, el río, usando toda su fuerza, se puso de puntillas, pero por más que lo intentaba, no podía ver la orilla opuesta./Arriving at the sea, he saw only a vast expanse of water, and looking into the distance, sky merged with sea, sea merged with sky, the river, using all its strength, stood on tiptoe, but no matter how hard it tried, couldn't see the opposite shore.
He sighed dejectedly, talking to himself: “I thought I was very big, it turns out the sea is much bigger than me.” The sea, hearing this, smiled and said: “Indeed, I am much bigger than you, but if it weren't for the countless rivers flowing here, I wouldn't be this big either.”
/El río, al oír esto, admiró aún más al mar./The river, hearing this, admired the sea even more.
