最后Zuìhòu一yí片piàn藤叶téngyè/La última hoja de hiedra/The Last Ivy Leaf
/Mary y Sue eran dos jóvenes pintoras pobres, y vivían en un apartamento viejo./Mary and Sue were two young poor painters, and they lived in an old apartment.
/Un día, después de examinar a Mary, el médico salió y le dijo a Sue: “Para curar su enfermedad, solo hay una décima parte de esperanza; lo clave es si ella tiene o no la confianza para seguir viviendo, porque los medicamentos ya no le hacen mucho efecto.”/One day, after examining Mary, the doctor came out and said to Sue: “To cure her illness, there is only a one-in-ten chance; the key is whether she has the confidence to keep living, because medicine no longer has much effect on her.”
After the doctor left, Sue cried secretly.
/Un rato después, Sue entró en la habitación de Mary, y mientras pintaba, cuidaba de ella./After a while, Sue went into Mary's room, and while painting, kept watch over her.
/De repente, Sue oyó que Mary decía algo./Suddenly, Sue heard Mary saying something.
她Tā来到láidào玛丽Mǎlì床chuáng前qián,看见kànjiàn玛丽Mǎlì望着wàngzhe窗外chuāngwài,嘴里zuǐlǐ正zhèng数着shǔzhe:“10、9、8、7……”/Se acercó a la cama de Mary, y vio que ella miraba hacia la ventana, contando en voz baja: “10, 9, 8, 7...”./She came to Mary's bedside, and saw Mary gazing out the window, counting under her breath: “10, 9, 8, 7...”
/Sue miró hacia fuera, y afuera solo había un patio vacío; frente al patio había un muro, por el que trepaba una hiedra, y casi todas las hojas de la hiedra habían sido arrancadas por el viento frío./Sue looked out the window, and outside there was only an empty courtyard; across the courtyard was a wall, covered with ivy, and almost all the leaves on the ivy had been stripped off by the cold wind.
/“Cariño, ¿qué pasa?”, preguntó Sue con preocupación./“Dear, what's wrong?” Sue asked with concern.
The leaves, the ivy leaves, there are only five left now.
/Cuando caiga la última hoja, yo también moriré“, dijo Mary con tristeza./When the last leaf falls, I will die too,” Mary said sorrowfully.
苏爱Sū'ài说shuō,”藤叶Téngyè跟gēn你nǐ的de病bìng有yǒu什么shénme关系guānxi呢ne?/“¡No digas tonterías!”, dijo Sue. “What does the ivy have to do with your illness?
/El médico dijo que te pondrás bien pronto.”/The doctor said you'll get better soon.”
/Esa noche, sopló viento toda la noche y llovió toda la noche./That night, the wind blew all night and it rained all night.
/A la mañana siguiente, Sue abrió la ventana como Mary le había pedido./The next morning, Sue opened the window as Mary had asked.
/Tras la lluvia y el viento de toda la noche, en el muro frente al patio todavía quedaba una hoja: era la última hoja./After a night of wind and rain, on the wall across the courtyard there was still one leaf left — it was the last leaf.
/Pasaron varios días, y por más que soplara el viento frío, esa hoja nunca se cayó./Several days passed, and no matter how the cold wind blew, that leaf never fell.
/Esta hoja le dio a Mary la confianza y la esperanza para seguir viviendo./This leaf gave Mary the confidence and hope to keep living.
/Pasaron unos días más, y Mary ya no corría ningún peligro./A few more days passed, and Mary was no longer in any danger.
I have to tell you some sad news: the old painter who lived downstairs, Mr. Behrman, died of pneumonia.
那Nà常春藤chángchūnténg的de最后zuìhòu一yí片piàn叶子yèzi无论wúlùn怎样zěnyàng被bèi风fēng吹chuī雨yǔ打dǎ,都dōu没méi掉diào下来xiàlái,你Nǐ不bù感到gǎndào奇怪qíguài吗ma?/¿No te parece extraño que esa última hoja de hiedra, por más que la golpearan el viento y la lluvia, nunca se cayera?/Doesn't it seem strange to you that that last ivy leaf, no matter how the wind and rain battered it, never fell?
It's because that was Mr. Behrman's masterpiece — that night, after the real last leaf fell, it was Mr. Behrman who, in the wind and rain, painted it back onto the wall.
It was on that very night that he caught a cold, which led to pneumonia, and he unfortunately passed away.”
/Al oír esto, Mary se conmovió tanto que rompió a llorar./Hearing this, Mary was so moved that tears streamed down her face.
