/Llegó la primavera, y una alondra hizo su nido en un campo de trigo./Spring arrived, and a lark made her home in a wheat field.

The wheat in the field grew taller day by day, and her chicks also grew up little by little.
/Llegó el verano, los pajaritos ya sabían volar, y el trigo también había madurado./Summer arrived, the young birds could all fly, and the wheat had also ripened.
/Un día, la mamá alondra había salido a buscar comida, y el dueño del campo de trigo y su hijo vinieron al campo a mirar el trigo./One day, mother lark went out to look for food, and the owner of the wheat field and his son came to the field to check the wheat.
/El dueño le dijo a su hijo: “El trigo ya está maduro, vayamos a pedir a los vecinos que nos ayuden a cosecharlo.”/The owner said to his son: “The wheat is ripe, let's go ask the neighbors to help us harvest it.”
The little birds were very frightened when they heard this; as soon as their mother came back, they told her what the owner had said, and asked her to take them somewhere safe.
/La mamá alondra dijo: “Hijos, no tengáis miedo, todavía no hace falta que nos mudemos.”/Mother lark said: “Children, don't be afraid, we don't need to move yet.”
/Pasaron unos días, la mamá alondra volvió a salir, y el dueño del campo y su hijo volvieron al campo de trigo./A few days passed, mother lark went out again, and the field owner and his son came back to the wheat field.
/El dueño le dijo a su hijo: “Mañana ve a pedirle a tus tíos que vengan a ayudarnos a cosechar el trigo.”/The owner said to his son: “Tomorrow go ask your uncles to come help us harvest the wheat.”

El dueño y su hijo volvieron al campo de trigo./A few more days passed, the wheat had fully ripened, and some had already fallen over. The owner and his son came to the wheat field again.

Pedagogical Commentary: Three monks: a fable about cooperation and responsibility: 1. The transparency of form: Observing 尚 (shàng) or 庙 (miào) helps connect the character's shape to its meaning, instead of memorizing it blindly. 2. The leap from character to word: These characters are rarely used alone; learning one opens the door to many new words. 3. Memory through context: Learning a character like 挑 (tiāo) together with a real sentence helps far more than memorizing its meaning in isolation.
