Xiǎnwēijìng xià de tiāndì/El mundo bajo el microscopio/The World in the Microscope
The invention of the telescope allows us to see farther, while the invention of the microscope allows us to see things the naked eye cannot see.
/El inventor del microscopio es el biólogo holandés de hace más de trescientos años, Leeuwenhoek./The inventor of the microscope is the Dutch biologist from more than three hundred years ago, Leeuwenhoek.
At sixteen, he went to a glasses shop to learn to grind lenses.
/En su trabajo descubrió muchas cosas nuevas e interesantes, y deseó poder inventar y crear algo en el futuro./At work, he discovered many novel things, and hoped that in the future he could make some inventions and creations.
After careful research, he made the world's first microscope.
This microscope could enlarge things three hundred times; when he used it to observe water, what he saw amazed Leeuwenhoek: there were countless tiny organisms in the water, some looking like small round dots, some like curved lines, some with hair on their bodies, some even with little tails... they swam back and forth in the water like fish.
/Leeuwenhoek anotó todo lo que había visto y se lo envió a la Real Sociedad de Londres./Leeuwenhoek recorded everything he had seen and sent it to the Royal Society of England.
At first, many people did not believe Leeuwenhoek's discovery, but once they saw with their own eyes the world of microorganisms under the microscope, they all had to be convinced.
The microscope invented by Leeuwenhoek helped people open the door to the world of microorganisms.
Pedagogical Commentary: The telescope: scientific exploration and continuous research: 1. The transparency of form: Observing 透 (tòu) or 消 (xiāo) helps connect the character's shape to its meaning, instead of memorizing it blindly. 2. The leap from character to word: These characters are rarely used alone; learning one opens the door to many new words. 3. Memory through context: Learning a character like 躺 (tǎng) together with a real sentence helps far more than memorizing its meaning in isolation.
