Time a Festival Comes, One Misses Family Twice as Much
/El famoso poeta de la dinastía Tang, Wang Wei, tenía cinco hermanos menores./The famous Tang-dynasty poet Wang Wei had five younger brothers.
When they were little, every year on the Double Ninth Festival, they would all climb the mountain, and also, following the local custom, pin dogwood sprigs to their clothes.
/Más tarde, Wang Wei dejó su tierra natal y fue a Chang'an a ser funcionario./Later, Wang Wei left his hometown and went to Chang'an to become an official.
On the day of the first Double Ninth Festival after leaving his hometown, he missed his family very much, so he climbed a mountain near Chang'an.
He gazed into the distance and thought: his brothers far away at home must have climbed to the top again, and as they pinned on the dogwood sprigs as usual, they would surely notice that this year one person was missing.
/Al pensar en esto, un poema brotó de su corazón; este es el famoso “Recordando a mis hermanos en Shandong el nueve de septiembre”, cuyo verso “cada vez que llega una fiesta extraño el doble a mi familia” se convirtió después en un verso célebre que ha perdurado a través de los siglos./Thinking of this, a poem welled up from his heart; this is the famous “Thinking of My Brothers in Shandong on the Double Ninth Day”, whose line “every festival I miss my family twice as much” later became a timeless, celebrated verse.

少小shàoxiǎo离家líjiā老大lǎodà回huí/Me fui de joven de casa y vuelvo ya viejo/I Left Home When Young and Return Now Old
/En la dinastía Tang hubo un famoso poeta llamado He Zhizhang./In the Tang dynasty there was a famous poet named He Zhizhang.
When he was young, he left his hometown far behind to become an official, held many important posts, and only returned home to retire after he was over eighty.
When he returned to his hometown, from which he had been away for fifty years, he once again saw every familiar tree and blade of grass, and heard the familiar local dialect.
/Al pensar que cuando se fue de su tierra natal era muy joven, y que ahora al volver tenía ya la cabeza cubierta de canas, He Zhizhang sintió una gran emoción./Thinking that he was very young when he left his hometown, and that now he had returned with a head full of white hair, He Zhizhang felt deeply moved.
/Junto al pueblo, había un grupo de niños jugando alegremente juntos./By the edge of the village, a group of children were playing happily together.
He Zhizhang, watching them play with great interest, thought to himself: “Most of my childhood friends are probably no longer alive.”
正Zhèng想着xiǎngzhe,忽然hūrán,一个yíge小孩xiǎohái向xiàng他tā跑过来pǎoguòlái,笑着xiàozhe问wèn他tā:“老爷爷Lǎoyéye,您nín是shì从cóng哪里nǎlǐ来lái的de呀ya?”/Justo cuando pensaba esto, de repente, un niño corrió hacia él y le preguntó sonriendo: “Abuelito, ¿de dónde viene usted?”/Just as he was thinking this, suddenly, a child ran up to him and asked with a smile: “Old grandpa, where have you come from?”
贺知章Hè Zhīzhāng连忙liánmáng说shuō:“这里Zhèlǐ就是jiùshì我wǒ的de家乡jiāxiāng啊a!”/He Zhizhang respondió enseguida: “¡Este es precisamente mi pueblo natal!”/He Zhizhang quickly replied: “This is exactly my hometown!”
/Y al decirlo, no pudo evitar reírse él mismo./And after saying it, he couldn't help laughing himself.
/Al llegar a casa, He Zhizhang tomó la pluma y escribió el poema “Escrito al volver casualmente a mi pueblo”./After arriving home, He Zhizhang picked up his brush and wrote the poem “Written Casually on Returning Home”.
