/Bienvenidos al famoso destino turístico de Pekín — el Templo del Cielo./Welcome to Beijing's famous tourist attraction — the Temple of Heaven.
The Temple of Heaven was built over five hundred years ago at the same time as the Forbidden City, and took fourteen years in total to complete.
It's the place where ancient Chinese emperors prayed for good harvests.
The Temple of Heaven can be divided into two parts, the inner altar and outer altar, and its shape is like the character '回'.
Where we are now is the inner altar, that is, the middle of the character '回'.
Now, please look at the wall around you, it's not just an ordinary wall, it's what people commonly call the Echo Wall.
/Por favor, colóquense en diferentes puntos junto al muro, de cara al muro, y hablen en voz baja; les aseguro que por muy lejos que estén, podrán conversar con claridad como si hablaran por teléfono./Please stand at different spots along the wall, face the wall, and speak in a low voice; I believe that no matter how far apart you are, you'll be able to converse as clearly as if talking on the phone.
Pedagogical Commentary: The Summer Palace: architecture and color of an imperial garden: 1. The transparency of form: Observing 美 (měi) or 丽 (lì) helps connect the character's shape to its meaning, instead of memorizing it blindly. 2. The leap from character to word: These characters are rarely used alone; learning one opens the door to many new words. 3. Memory through context: Learning a character like 完 (wán) together with a real sentence helps far more than memorizing its meaning in isolation.
